Mobility is changing rapidly. While connected, software-defined vehicles have been known in the automotive sector for a long time, a new era is now also emerging in the two-wheeler segment: the Connected Motorbike.

CarByte has developed a Connected Motorbike prototype that shows how motorcycles can evolve into digital platforms through connectivity, cloud integration, and intelligent software, thereby bringing tangible added value to riders, manufacturers, and partners.

The Vision: The Motorcycle as a Digital Platform

The goal is to rethink the motorcycle — not just mechanically, but digitally. The motorcycle of the future is therefore not just a vehicle, but part of an open, scalable, and software-driven SDX ecosystem. Just like passenger cars and trucks, motorcycles should be able to use digital functions related to safety and comfort. An important step, because riding a motorcycle is significantly riskier and more demanding than driving a car and can therefore benefit particularly from intelligent features.

Connectivity creates completely new possibilities:

·         Digital services for riders

·         Data-driven business models

·         Higher safety

·         More comfort

·         Continuous further development via software

·         New emotional riding experiences

From Concept to Functional Prototype

At the e2e Connect Day, CarByte presented a functional prototype for the first time, demonstrating how this vision can be put into practice.

The current demonstrator already integrates key connected features such as:

Crash Notification

The system automatically detects accidents and can immediately trigger notifications and emergency calls in the event of an accident, as well as transmit the position and driving data. Emergency assistance is contacted immediately, and the rider can be located. This reduces response times and improves rider safety.

Why this is important for motorcycles: Motorcylists are more often on the road alone and face a significantly higher risk of serious injuries and fatal accidents than car occupants. The frequency of accidents is approximately 4 times higher than for passenger cars.

Stolen Motorcycle Tracking

Motorcycles are stolen about 10 to 15 times more frequently than passenger cars relative to their registered number. Consequently, intelligent tracking systems are all the more important. Through connectivity, a stolen motorcycle can be found more easily. This increases theft protection and creates additional benefits for the rider and manufacturer.

These functions were deliberately chosen as the first evolutionary stage: They make the utility of connectivity immediately tangible and increase the safety of both rider and vehicle.

Strong Partnerships in the E2E Tech Chain

Innovations of this kind do not arise in isolation. The Connected Motorbike project was implemented together with strong technology partners:

·         ACTIA Group supplies the onboard ECU as the technological basis in the vehicle.

·         WirelessCar provides the cloud platform for connectivity and digital services.

In close cooperation with our partners, we at CarByte bring together extensive experience from the areas of automotive, connectivity, software development, and IoT to make the added value tangible for customers and motorcycle manufacturers. Together, we combine embedded systems, vehicle architecture, and cloud technologies into a seamless end-to-end solution.

Outlook

The successful prototype is our starting point for a functioning solution. The next step is the production solution.

Now, the task is to further develop the platform, integrate additional digital services, continue expanding the benefits for OEMs and riders, and scale the solution toward industrialization and mass production.

The Connected Motorbike already demonstrates today the potential inherent in software-defined two-wheelers and how connectivity can reshape the future of motorcycling in the long term.
